“THE GOLDEN COUPLE” by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
Many of us wish to have quick results in everything we do: gym, diet, and even love relationships, without us working on anything. We would like to have a Magic Pill, and by ingesting it, we will get the desired results!
The writers Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen imagine this situation in their novel “The golden couple.”
Avery Chamber is a therapist who is not bound by the rules of the Association of Psychologists, being kicked out of it. Therefore she creates her own type of therapy that promises results in just ten sessions.
“Ten sessions might not seem like nearly enough time to solve complex therapeutic issues, but according to Avery Chambers, her unique brand of intensive short-term counselling changes lives.”
“In my process, each session has a title, beginning with
THE CONFESSION, then cycling through
DISRUPTION,
ESCALATION,
REVELATION,
DEVASTATION,
CONFRONTATION,
EXPOSURE,
THE TEST,
RECONCILIATION, and concluding with
PROMISES.
But, of course, there is a catch.
Avery Chambers is not only seeing the clients in her cabinet. Between each session, she does her detective work on the clients. Based on the list provided by them, which contains their home address, their workplace, and their favorite restaurants, Avery follows and watches them without them knowing.
In this way, she gets to see how they behave in their day-to-day lives and interact with the persons close to them instead of getting their Instagram-like version of their life.
“Sometimes, we need to look at our lives from a different angle to recognise the dysfunction and damage certain relationships are causing.”
P.S. Unfortunately, there are no quick results, no matter how brilliant a therapist is. It still depends on the client’s willingness to do their work so they can get results…
