“PUNK LOVE” by L.J. Shen
Reading the book “PUNK LOVE,” I remembered accurately the first time I met my future husband.
Inspired by the amazing writer L.J. SHEN:
(“But deep down- and I mean really, incredibly deep- I knew I was going to be a writer.
Not wished, no thought, not suspected, knew.”), I wrote to my husband a letter detailing our first meeting and all the other stuff I did in the name of love.
Back then I was a twenty-one years old student, and instead of studying for my exams, I was waiting for my future husband (at that time, he had no clue about this title…) to get out of his dorms.
In my defense, it was 1992, and not only did my country just wake up from Communism, but I did not know the term: stalker.
“I idly wondered, if we had kids, would they have my blue eyes and his blond hair? Or my brown hair and his hazel eyes? I really wanted them to have his eyes. Kind of hazel.”
“That was the day I switched to veganism for a dude.
Not knowing that in the upcoming weeks, months, years, I would look back and think…veganism is not even on the list of top fifty insane things I did for Alex.”
It was pure joy for me to read the words written by the writer L.J. SHEN.
And I was impressed by Lara who, at nearly sixteen years old, was such a wise and contemplative girl. At twenty-one years old I wasn’t nearly that wise!!!
“There were lessons to be learned during that time period, in the gentle seam between becoming an adult and being a dumb fuck of a teenager.
Some of the lessons I would put in my pocket for adulthood.
Others, I would leave behind and have to re-learn at a later time.”
When I saw my future husband, for the first time, it was in the lovely town Iași, on an alley between two students’ dorms.
We looked at each other, and we started to laugh because we were dressed alike: jeans, hoodies, and Converse, all of them bought from the same second-hand shop.
Thirty years ago, a piece of my soul went to my future husband and it is still there.
